From landscapes to
the kitchen counter.
Ten years designing landscapes.
Then a closer look at something we use every day.

years in
landscape architecture
The scale changed.
The instinct didn’t.
After a decade in landscape architecture, we began to look at the kitchen counter with the same attention we brought to a landscape.
Salt was part of nearly every meal, yet its bottle rarely felt considered. We wanted to give the ingredient and the object equal care.

A thoughtful object.
A place in your everyday.
The research
left the desk.
We started with reading and conversations with producers. In July 2026, we travelled to western Sicily to see a salt factory, a mill and the pans near Marsala and Trapani for ourselves.
- First, get curious
Read. Ask. Repeat.
We read about salt, including the work of Mark Bitterman, and began reaching out to producers.
- June 2026
A new direction.
With five supplier meetings arranged, we moved on from full-time landscape architecture to focus on Pink Bird.
- July 2026
Go to the source.
In western Sicily, we met the people behind the salt and saw the process up close.

Not just a place on a label.
A place to spend time, listen and learn.
A little less talking.
A little more looking.
On foot, between the pans.
Original footage from our wider travels in Italy.
The bird was
already there.
Flamingos visit the salt pans of Trapani. Pink Bird takes its name from that landscape, keeping a connection to the place where the salt begins.
Back to the counter.

While you cook.
Before you eat.
